The Timeless Essence: A Blend of Mysore and Tamil Nadu Sandalwood Oils
Indian sandalwood has long been celebrated for its rich, deep aroma and the spiritual significance. With its calming properties, sandalwood oil has been revered in perfumery, religious rituals, and traditional healing for centuries. Among the many varieties, two regions stand out for their contributions to sandalwood: Mysore in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Today we are offering you, a unique blend of sandalwood oils from these two regions, this oil offers a complete and enriched sensory experience, combining history, tradition, and the distinct characteristics of each type of oil.
Historical Significance of Sandalwood in India
The history of sandalwood in India is woven with cultural, spiritual, and economic importance. Sandalwood has been utilized for millennia in religious rituals, particularly in Hinduism and Buddhism. The oil has been used in incense, cosmetics, Ayurvedic treatments, and even as a base for sacred paste. Throughout the centuries, Indian sandalwood has maintained its place in royalty and the elite’s perfumes, due to its warm, woody, and grounding fragrance.
Mysore Sandalwood Oil: A Legendary Aroma
Mysore, located in the state of Karnataka, has been synonymous with sandalwood oil for centuries. The sandalwood trees from this region are known for their exceptionally high-quality wood, resulting in some of the finest oils in the world. The Mysore sandalwood oil, known for its smooth, creamy, and slightly sweet notes, is considered the epitome of quality in the sandalwood world.
The 2020 batch of Mysore sandalwood oil in this blend carries the legacy of this region, with its unique smoothness, a subtle sweetness, and a grounding warmth. This oil’s aroma is creamy and velvety, with a nuanced earthy undertone that is deep, rich, and inviting.
Tamil Nadu Sandalwood Oil: A Robust Tradition
Tamil Nadu, another key region in sandalwood production, has its own distinctive approach to sandalwood oil extraction. The region is known for producing sandalwood with a slightly bolder and more robust aroma than its Mysore counterpart. Tamil Nadu sandalwood oil, particularly the extract from the 2010 batch, has an aromatic profile that is more resinous, with sharper, more intense notes that add depth to any fragrance blend.
The oil from Tamil Nadu is characterized by a richer, more prominent woodiness and a slightly spicy undertone. It is often described as being more masculine or “foresty,” giving it an earthy, more vivid fragrance that cuts through with a lingering warmth. The age of the 2010 batch adds a mature complexity, offering deeper, resinous undertones that enhance the fragrance with time.
The Art of Blending: Combining Mysore and Tamil Nadu Sandalwood
When combined, the Mysore sandalwood oil from the 2020 batch and the Tamil Nadu extract from 2010 create a harmonious balance between smooth, creamy sweetness and bold, resinous warmth. The two oils complement each other, enhancing their best characteristics while creating a full, rounded experience of Indian sandalwood.
The Mysore oil provides a soft, almost velvety foundation with its sweet, subtle creaminess, while the Tamil Nadu oil offers a more intense, resinous depth. The combination of the two oils offers a fragrance that is both calming and energizing, grounding yet elevating, evoking the balance of nature itself. The blend is multi-dimensional, with top notes of smooth sweetness from Mysore and base notes of deeper, earthy woodiness from Tamil Nadu.
The result is a fragrant oil that not only honors the distinct qualities of both regions but also reflects the complete sensory experience of Indian sandalwood. This blend transports the user to a world where the rich history and tradition of sandalwood come to life through scent. The blend celebrates both the methods of extraction—steam distillation, which has been used for centuries—and the natural landscapes that shape each oil’s unique character.

OUDH FACTS
When used in a perfume composition, Oud is most often a base note, which tends to remain on the skin long after the others dissipate. Since they form the perfume’s foundation, base notes are very rich, heavy and long-lasting (up to six hours and more). They serve to enhance the scent of other ingredients; and, in some cases, they impart a fragrance all their own. While most wood notes are known for their earthy qualities, Oud provides a pleasant sweet scent and is often featured in a synthetic version because it is so costly to harvest.
